October 13, 2008 HMHS PTA Minutes
Minutes approved.
Treasurer’s Report: The current YTD budget figure is $16,314.
President’s Report (Sarah Tambussi/Susan Warner): Sports injuries and how to prevent them and the topic of how much play is healthy will be the subject of the November 18th meeting of the HMHS and MS PTAs. The meeting will take place at HMHS at 7:30 p.m. Author Mike Sokolove, who wrote a critically acclaimed book on sports injuries in adolescents, will be one of the speakers along with physical therapist and expert Rich Romash.
The What’s On Your Mind Forum will be held October 21st in the Elizabeth Haddon All-Purpose Room. College Night is scheduled for October 22nd.
Principal’s Report: Mike Wilson said “Our Town” opens this week with a 2 p.m. matinee on Wednesday.
More than 150 students came to the fall Open Gym Night. Mr. Baker and students are planning another Open Gym Night for the first week in December. There will be a third in March during March Madness college basketball games. (The PTA pays expenses for these evenings and provides the chaperones.)
PTA Student Report (Jeff Smith): The Halloween Dance is scheduled for Thursday, October 30th.
There will be a political debate on October 30th during school between members of the Democrat Club and Republican Club.
On Oct. 31st there will be a Spanish Day with students from Lindenwold.
HMHS guidance counselors are working with students to help iron out problems with Genesis and with the submitting of the common application.
Students will walk in the breast cancer fundraiser walk as a tribute to Scott Reed’s mother, who died of breast cancer this month. All of the Reed children have attended HMHS. Scott is a senior this year.
BOE Report (Deanna Burney): Programs are set for the November 3, 4 and 5 teacher in-service days. More than 40 seats have been sold to teachers in other districts who will attend the program with the Haddonfield teachers.
The meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m.
