PTA Minutes – Jan. 14, 2008
Approved minutes from November meeting.
Treasurer’s Report (Tracy Stiefel): The current balance is $15,818. Expenses included money to the winter dance, teacher flowers, Back to School food and courtyard flowers.
Operation Smile (Beth Pease): Last year students raised about $21,000 during Op Smile and they hope to raise even more money this year. They need 80 parent volunteers. Contact teacher Paul Brown if you are available to help. It’s on Friday, February 1st and runs from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturday.
BOE Report: Deanna Burney said it is National School Board Recognition Month so parents should consider taking the time to thank board members for their hard work. She also passed out the calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Wilson said the freshman writing course will be changing for next year. The humanities essays are being eliminated. In addition to changing the freshman writing course, the BOE is also considering adding some new classes.
Volunteers Needed: Secretary Debra Nussbaum is seeking student volunteers for an Interfaith Caregiver fundraiser on the evening of Feb. 28th. Students will be given notes showing they volunteered and stating how many hours they worked. Call her at 856-354-2296 to sign up.
Martin Luther King Day of Service: Coordinator Evelyn Schwartz thanked parents and teacher Dan Bree for working on organizing the day. Participation may be down this year. About 100 students were signed up the week before Jan. 21st and previous years 125 to 150 students signed up. Students were encouraged to sign up for empty slots.
Meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. because college admissions officers arrived to speak to parents about the admissions process.
